An important note: one of the most common emergencies we could encounter is severe bleeding. I highly recommend taking a Stop the Bleed class. They are often offered free to the public at hospitals and first responder education.

Fire extinguishers are another thing you need to be educated on because not all fires are made equal, and having a plan ahead of time saves precious minutes to safely extract people or horses from a fire.

First aid classes are also a must: check your area for classes offered by the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross. Opt for a class that includes basic first aid. If you ride out on trails in remote areas, a Wilderness First Aid course may be worth the investment.

OUR VISION

Boston Mountain Youth Ranch offers a youth mentoring program for children in an outdoor setting. We hope to develop a child’s ability to process emotions and build resilience for navigating challenges in their day-to-day lives.

We do this at no charge to their family.

WHAT WE DO

We work with children and their families, utilizing a mentoring model in our work with children who are struggling by partnering them with a mentor and a horse, working to build positive relationship skills through physical movement and playfulness, within the context of a non-judgemental relationship.

OUR COMMUNITY

Our generous community of volunteers mentor kids, handle horses, welcome guests, and help around the farm with maintenance and farm chores. We also have volunteers from our community who help with larger projects and fundraising efforts.
